We have different maps

“Areas of this map were now becoming familiar, so was the territory they represented. Had they become familiar to other travellers? Were other travellers obliged to travel through the same country? There was no indication that they should. They left me no sign posts. Perhaps it was not impossible that other travellers had different maps of this territory, simpler and more straightforward maps. Perhaps the country only existed in its maps. In which case a traveller created the territory as he walked through it. If he should stand still, so would the landscape.”
